Kentuckiana Comes to LaPorte and North Central Indiana July 30-31

Make plans to join IDP in Northern Indiana in the areas of Plymouth and LaPorte for the 2013 Kentuckiana Dairy Exchange on July 30-31. We are anticipating a nice group from Kentucky and Indiana, providing an excellent opportunity for an exchange of ideas, one of our core missions at Indiana Dairy Producers.
 
FARMS ON THE TOUR

Argos Holstein Farms, Argos, Indiana (Tuesday)
Our tour starts off with hosts Mike and Jan Heckaman and Max and Carrie Jo Bollenbacher, who work together to milk 670 Holstein and Jersey cows in a double 12 parlor, using the Heatime® system to monitor cows.

Homestead Dairy, LLC, Plymouth, Indiana (Tuesday)
This dairy is owned by the Houin family, milking around 3500 cows at 4 different locations. Homestead Dairy extensively uses data collection and various types of technology to improve management and keep things running smoothly.

Nor-Bert Farms, Bremen, Indiana (Tuesday)
The Dankert family uses 3 Lely Austronaut robotic milking units to milk their 140 cows, and they also have an automated calf feeding system.

Ted and Karyn Hesters, Walkerton, Indiana (Wednesday)
Ted and Karyn Hesters have a grass-based organic dairy system for their 180 Jersey cows and recently built a new milking parlor.

YonEd Dairy, Union Mills, Indiana (Wednesday)
YonEd Dairy is owned by veterinarians Yon and Alice Lindborg. After a devastating barn fire, Yon and Alice rebuilt and are currently milking around 300 Holsteins.

Minich Dairy Farm, LaPorte, Indiana (Wednesday)
Jim and Val Minich, along with children Frank, Amanda and Charlie, operate this 600-cow dairy with an Afimilk® system in a double-12 parallel parlor.

Overnight accommodations are available for $89 at Best Western Plus in LaPorte, 444 Pine Lake Avenue, at 219-362-4585. Please make your hotel reservation by July 20 to get this special rate.
 
Your $40 Member Registration Fee Includes:
Bus transportation to all 6 farms is available and included in the $40 registration fee for IDP member farms. Included in your registration fee is the evening banquet on Tuesday, where the University of Kentucky will have a program, "Precision Technology for Improving Dairy Management." Lunch on Wednesday at Minich Dairy Farm is also included. The meeting point for the bus each day is the Best Western Plus, 444 Pine Lake Avenue, LaPorte, IN 46350. On Tuesday, the bus will leave at 11 AM Central / 12PM Eastern.  On Wednesday, the bus will leave at 6:30 AM Central Time / 7:30 AM Eastern Time.
